If you would like to add the Random Quotes Mod to your Soop Phoenix site:

  • download this file.
  • Unzip and place the .asp file in your /mods/ folder.
  • Go to the Mgmt Menu, then to the Modules.
  • Click Add New Module.
  • Name it Quote (Module_Quote)
  • It should be in column 2.
  • Choose which groups can see the quotes.
  • If Soop has write permissions to your /mods/ folder, then check the add include box.
    • Otherwise, manually add <!--#include file="Module_Quote.asp" -->  to /mods/_init_mods.asp
  • Click Add New Module button to confirm the addition.
  • Enable the mod from the Modules Management screen.

Please take the time to post a response here, so I'll know you're actually using this mod.

Enjoy!

Is there a way to use a specific database instead of one already created?  I'm planning on using this for a music portal and was hoping to display random song quotes.

At the moment, this mod is pulling from a centralized database of quotes I manage and maintain.

If you want me to make a custom quotes list for just song quotes (either to house on your own server or this one) I can do that.  Let me know the specifics (do you want your site customers to be able to add new quotes or not, do you have a list of quotes to preload into the table, etc.) and I can work up a price quote for writing it for you.

Charles,

Thanks for the offer, however the site that I'm designing is for an NPO and as it is, I'm donating my time just for the layout.  However, if it comes to something like that, I will be sure to let you know.
